The audio and images are out of sync. What should I do?

Windows 3.1

1. Set the buffered audio size for the MCI Sound driver to 8 or 9 seconds. Open Control Panel. Select Drivers. Select MCI SOUND. Select Settings. Select 8 or 9 seconds. Close up Control Panel and restart Windows.

2. The following steps should be done only if Step 1 does not solve the problem:

a. In the Control Panel, select 386 Enhanced. Select Virtual Memory. The Swapfile should be set to Permanent and to the Recommended Size.

b. In the Autoexec.bat file (available from DOS Edit, or in Windows Sysedit-File Run Sysedit), MSCDEX statement should have /M:25, or as high as /M:35. SMARTDRV (if used), should be after MSCDEX in AUTOEXEC.

c. In the Config.sys file: EMM386.EXE statement should have d=128.

d. DOS memory should be optimized. (Memmaker can be run; QEMM may cause conflicts.)

Windows 95

1. Set the "Optimize access pattern," which is found under Control Panel, System, Performance, File System, CD-ROM, to "No read-ahead."

2. Set the buffered audio size for the Wave Sound driver to 9 seconds by going to Control Panel, Multimedia, Advanced, Media Control Devices, Wave Audio Device (Media Control), Settings.

3. If none of the above work, reinstall the CD-ROM and Sound Card software drivers. These are provided by your hardware manufacturer.

Macintosh

1. Ram Doubler and/or CD-ROM caching software, such as AutoCache, can cause this problem. If you are using such software, it must be disabled for the CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM to work properly.

2. In the Control Panel under the Apple menu icon, select Memory. Turn Virtual Memory off. Set the Cache size=128. Turn RAM Disk off.

3. In the Control Panel under the Apple menu icon, select Sharing Setup. Turn off file sharing.

4. Use minimum set of extensions--only AppleCD, ISO9660, and High Sierra. If AppleCD is the only extension found, use it. If System 7.5 or greater, Extension Manager can be used to select extensions. If System 7.1, create a temporary folder and drag unwanted extensions from the System\Extensions folder into the temp folder. Then, restart your machine.

What do I do if I am having GPF problems?

On some systems, double clicking on a button, a blue reference link, or a green glossary link will cause a GPF. Resolution: Don't double click. CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROMs require only a single mouse click to activate the buttons and hyperlinks.

What are the system requirements to run my CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM?

Windows

486DX\25 processor or better, Windows 3.1 or Windows 95, 8 MB RAM (16 MB RAM recommended for Windows 95), CD-ROM drive (double speed or better recommended), 640 x 480 VGA (SVGA, 256 colors recommended), mouse and sound card recommended.

Macintosh

33MHz 68030 processor or better, System 7 or higher, 8 MB RAM (6 MB free RAM required), CD-ROM drive (double speed or better recommended), 640 x 480 color monitor (256 colors recommended), mouse and sound card recommended.

How do I install my CD-ROM?

First, because this is a CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM, you do not have to load it onto your hard drive. You can run it straight from the CD-ROM drive. You do have the option of installing an icon onto your desktop that will enable you to take discs in and out and play them with only a click on the icon. The directions on how to get started are on the back of your CD-ROM case and in the ReadMe file on the disc.

Can I print the images on the disc? Are the images on the disc under copyright?

Yes, you may print the images. Choose the image in view mode and then choose Print from the File menu on the menu bar. Enlarged images or images displayed in a dialog box can be printed by selecting the Print icon located in the lower right-hand corner of the image. All images are protected under copyright laws and cannot be duplicated for commercial use. They can, however, be duplicated for personal use (e.g., reports, pictures, etc.).

On certain systems you may have better results printing CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM images by saving them to a file and then printing from another application. To save a CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM image, choose Save As from the File menu.

Can I use other programs with my CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM(s)?

Yes. Your CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM is a fully compatible Windows program.

Windows 3.1

To switch to other programs while running your CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM, simply use the Ctrl+Esc keys to access the Task List, or you may use the Alt+Tab key combination to toggle between programs if this feature is enabled.

Windows 95

To switch to other programs while running your CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM, simply use the Ctrl+Esc keys to show the Start menu, or you may use the Alt+Tab keys to toggle between programs.

Macintosh

You may use the finder to switch to any open application.

Are your CD-ROM titles networkable?

No. Because of the vast amount of information on these disks, networking is not presently implemented on CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROMs.

I am running Windows 95 in 640x480 video resolution. Why is the taskbar covering part of the CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM window?

The CLEARVUE & SVE CD-ROM window is 640x480 in size, so it needs the entire screen when you are running in 640x480 resolution. To solve this problem, set the taskbar to auto hide. To set the taskbar to auto hide, click on the "Start" button, select "Settings," select "Taskbar," and click on the "Auto hide" option so that there is a check mark in the "Auto hide" box. Click on "Apply" and then click on "OK." The auto hide option will cause the taskbar to disappear while you are running other applications. To view the taskbar when "hidden," move the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen (where your taskbar was located), and it will reappear.
